Managing Azure Ecosystem and users after September 1st and managing MFA obligation starting after 15 October on a personal Azure account with no professional MS account

Hi,
I have several questions regarding how I use Azure currently and enabling MFA on tesing out Azure on a private personal environment.

That personal environment hasn't got anything deployed at the moment, and no subscriptions either apart from a PAYG one.

I received the notice about MFA being activated by default on Azure in October. That account being a personal one, I don't use a professional email at the moment in that "Tenant"
So I decided to try to test out the implementation of MFA on another account.

The email linked to my main account is recognized as a member.
I'm not sure if I have a Tenant, I do have a #EXT# @ <something>.onmicrosoft as user principal name linked to that account.

I added a guest user and added it in the MFA group on which I'm testing it on.

I don't want to use the main account in order to avoid having issues while testing out the MFA enforcement. - I was prompted with the invite link received by the guest user to activate MFA.

The guest user as a user principal name with the same format as my main one, but it is a guest user.

However, I can't login to anything with my guest user.
I suppose that is a licence issue or permission issue behind that.
However, I currently have this while looking at licence with no licence available to associate with it (access to Azure Portal for example)

When I go on the M365 Admin Center, I get the following

which would mean that I necessarily would need a professional account to manage licences on users.

I also looked in the properties of the Tenant, this is what I had.

So my questions are the following :
Can I still use Azure to add user to my "Tenant" after September 1st?
Do I have to buy a Azure licence to add to my user to access the portal or to test the MFA feature?
Do I need to necessarily have a professional MS account to manage my Azure ecosystem or do I just need to activate the setting in the screen above to be able to do that on my personal account?

    Hi @David GORGETTE

    Thank you for reaching us!

I understand that you have a few questions regarding the new update about enable multifactor authentication for your tenant by 15 October 2024.

Let’s go through your questions one by one.

    1. Can I still use Azure to add user to my "Tenant" after September 1st?

Yes, you can still add users to your Azure tenant after September 1st. This enforcement is for enhancing security and will not prevent you from adding users to your tenant.

    2. Do I have to buy an Azure license to add to my user to access the portal or to test the MFA feature?

To access the Azure portal and test the MFA feature, you do not necessarily need to purchase additional licenses. if you want to use the MFA for free you can use Security defaults. However, certain features and services might require specific licenses.

    3. Do I need to necessarily have a professional MS account to manage my Azure ecosystem, or do I just need to activate the setting in the screen above to be able to do that on my personal account?

You don't necessarily need a professional MS account to manage your Azure ecosystem. You can use your personal account to manage Azure services, including MFA.

Hope this helps. Do let us know if you any further queries by responding in the comments section.

    Thanks,

    Akhilesh.
