On August 13, 2024, our Dev team had initiated a test deployment of Azure Open AI in order to conduct closed (not available to public / clients) tests based on "Standart" pricing model.

Within the first week (August 13-20th) absolutely no action / tests were performed. On August 20 to 22th, the gpt-3.5-turbo version 0125 model was tested in our product (under development), and a small number of tokens were spent.

On August 22th 2024, when visiting the Azure Open AI personal account, we found out that the huge bill of more than $ 55 000, which was extremely inconsistent with our expectations for the cost of the GPT-3.5-Turbo-0125 model for Input (Per 1,000 tokens) $0.0005 and Output (Per 1,000 tokens) $0.0015.

Our company sent an appeal to technical support through the portal azure personal account with a request to clarify the situation. On August 23th, 2024, we have received the first response from technical support detailing billing by day; the response indicated that "Provided throughput units" (PTU) pricing was enabled, and therefore the bill is tens of thousands of times higher than our cost expectations.

We assume that the PTU was enabled mistakenly at the time of choosing the Deploy Model in Azure Open AI, without actually using the advantages of this PTU module (changes to the model selection took effect on August 12th– the day before our initial deployment, which we had conduction in strict accordance with video instructions relevant up to that date). During the registration process, we were also guided by the fact that the PTU cannot be activated without third-party help (see the scan), and we would not be able to "accidentally" activate it.

We ask for your help in solving the abovementioned problem. Is it possible to cancel excessive charges / adjust the payment amount?Снимок экрана 2024-08-24 184311

@Aleksei Volkonitskii elcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum, Thank you for posting your query here!

    .

If you’re seeing an excessive billing charges or discrepancy in your billing, I would suggest creating an Azure Billing support request and work with the support engineer to get these details. This type of request is included in Basic Support and its free ticket and a support engineer can work directly with you and provide the best possible solution. You can create an Azure Billing support request by following these steps:

    1. Sign into the Azure portal.
    2. Search for "Help + support" in the search bar.
    3. Select "Help + support" from the search results.
    4. Select "New support request".
    5. Select "Billing" as the issue type.
    6. Fill out the required information and submit the request.. The Support professionals will contact you and would be able to provide the most accurate information based on your specific usage and billing details.

Hope this helps. If you have any follow-up questions, please let me know. I would be happy to help.
