Scripts within SharePoint

Hi,

I'm new to SharePoint having recently been tasked to add a page to our company intranet.

I have the page written in HTML however when I add the code to a page within SharePoint the code ignores the embedded JavaScript and fails to operate as it does when opened with any other browser. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
