I've read numerous places that Outlook 2021 retail will support OAUTH2. How do we enable and use OAUTH2 in Outlook 2021 retail??

What's the version of your Outlook 2021? (File>Office Account>About Outlook)
And what's your account? A Microsoft 365 account? Or Anything else?

As i know, modern authentication is enabled by default in Outlook 2021/2019/2016 when you connect to Exchange Online. You can also refer to this official article to learn more about it: How modern authentication works for Office 2016 and Office 2019 client apps.

I don't connect to Exchange. I'm retired and this is my personal "full" desktop version of MS Office 2021.

Thanks for the follow up. Yahoo hosts my personal "Frontier" email and it is they who is requiring a 3rd party email app that supports OAUTH2. Yahoo has given us 2 options that don't include moving to a mail app like Thunderbird, which does support OAUTH2. Those options are 1) remove my account from Outlook 2021 and then re-add it or 2) create and use an "app password". Even though I'm a retired network engineer and software advisor for my previous employer, I'm having a problem understanding the concept of an app password or "when to use it" and Yahoo doesn't offer any explanation at all, except "how" to create it; no explanation of how or when it is used, which the old network engineer in me needs to know and understand. So...I used their first suggestion and removed my account from Outlook with the Control Panel mail app. Then I added it back and configured it. I'm back to using Outlook but again, Yahoo seems content to give us those two choices but offer absolutely no explanation why either would work to satisfy their OAUTH2 requirement. I guess I'll know soon enough if the first option worked as I think this goes into effect around Sep 16.

I received an email today that a Lawrence Norton posted a comment to this thread and yet I don't see it. Never mind, I refreshed and now I see it, but still have no answer. as I mentioned above, I took Yahoo's first option to make my Outlook 2021 Professional install compliant. The required date to have this one has come and gone and I Outlook client still works for my private email, so I must be okay. We can close this thread.
