Hello,

I can't access a lot of my personal data. I have a laptop with 2 hard drives, where one is used for data only. Unbeknownst to me, this drive had become a dynamic disk. This laptop had broken (RAM failure it turned out), but I got a new laptop and tried accessing this disk with it via a USB adapter, but it came up as Invalid Dynamic Disk in disk management. To check my adapter wasn't faulty, I made the error of connecting the other disk this way. That was accessible. But I got the old laptop repaired, put the disks back in, and now the laptop won't boot into Windows and I just get the UEFI panel. I think shellx64.efi has been wiped because I can't boot into the EFI shell either. The boot priority list shows nothing, but the date time are correct and the disks are visible to the system. I would like to know, please, 1. Where is the file going to be on the Windows disk that explains to Windows how to read the dynamic disk, and 2. Is my best course of action to boot into EFI shell using a USB device, then attempt to repair Windows? Thanks a lot for taking the time to read this, and I hope you can help me!

    Hello Christopher Arnold,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

According to the description above , I think you should try to repair your Windows BCD first.

Here is a link for your reference, it explains how Windows boot process works and how to repair Windows BCD in Windows 10.

I hope the information above is helpful.
