Hello Volar Clouds,
Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.
According to the description, Windows defender stop the Discord after it updated.
It might be blocking Discord's processes or network activities. This can happen if Windows Defender mistakenly identifies Discord as a threat or if a recent update changed its settings.
To resolve this issue, you can take the following steps:
1.Add Discord to Windows Defender Exclusions
Adding Discord to the list of exclusions in Windows Defender will prevent it from being scanned or blocked. Here’s how you can do it:
- Open Windows Security:
- Press
Win + I
to open Settings. - Go to Update & Security > Windows Security.
- Go to Virus & Threat Protection:
- Click on Virus & threat protection.
- Manage Settings:
- Under Virus & threat protection settings, click on Manage settings.
- Add or Remove Exclusions:
- Scroll down and click on Add or remove exclusions under the Exclusions section.
- Add Discord as an Exclusion:
- Click Add an exclusion and choose Folder.
- Navigate to the location where Discord is installed. By default, it should be in:
C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Discord
- Select the Discord folder to add it to the exclusion list.
2.Allow Discord Through Windows Firewall
Ensure that Windows Firewall is not blocking Discord:
- Open Windows Security:
- Press
Win + I
to open Settings. - Go to Update & Security > Windows Security > Firewall & network protection.
- Allow an App Through Firewall:
- Click on Allow an app through firewall.
- Change Settings:
- Click the Change settings button.
- Find Discord and Allow It:
- Scroll down the list and find Discord.
- Ensure both Private and Public boxes are checked.
- If Discord is not listed, click Allow another app..., then Browse to find the Discord executable (
Discord.exe
) in its installation folder.
- Save Settings:
- Click OK to save your settings.
3. Temporarily Disable Windows Defender
If Discord still does not work after adding it to exclusions, you can temporarily disable Windows Defender to test if it is the cause:
- Open Windows Security:
- Go to Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
- Manage Settings:
- Under Virus & threat protection settings, click Manage settings.
- Turn Off Real-Time Protection:
- Toggle Real-time protection to Off.
- Try launching Discord again.
Note: Disabling Windows Defender reduces your computer’s security. Re-enable it once you've finished testing.
I hope the information above is helpful.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.
Best Regards,
Daisy Zhou
