Authenticator app stuck on old phone

Hey

so I have been using the Authenticator app for a pretty long time mostly to manage and protect work emails as I deal with so many

not too long ago my iPhone entirely broke into pieces shattering into pieces and was practically unrecoverable. That phone had the Authenticator app and all the codes so now I am locked out of pretty much all my emails to do with work

i have asked my IT department if they can remove the 2fa and stuff but they are too lazy to do it and have taken nearly a month so that solution isn’t really possible

I am stuck on what to do how to transfer the 2fa into the new phone, if there are any ideas or solutions I would really appreciate it

    Hi Alan,

I can understand the frustration of this. By default, any Authenticator app will not back the credentials up to the cloud and this is the same for MS Authenticator. Did you, backup them to the iCloud?

Click Restore your backup when trying to setup on your new Phone before sign in and the credentials should appear if you backed up.

    I hope this helps.

    @Alan salky

Thank you for posting this in Microsoft Q&A.

As I understand you are unable to access any Azure resources as authenticator app in your old phone was not accessible anymore.

You have already contacted your IT admin and asked them to remove MFA for your account. They responded stating it is not possible.

To fix this issue you will have to contact your IT admin again ask them to set "re-register for MFA" again for your account in Entra. This will reset MFA for your account and when you login next time you will be asked to register for MFA again.

Steps that they can perform are mentioned below,

    • Admin has to login to Azure portal and access Azure active directory.

    • Once done they have to go to users blade on the left.

    • Click on Authentication methods and click on “Require re-register multifactor authentication”.

    • Now when you try to access any Azure services it will prompt you to register for MFA again.

Let us know if you have any further questions.
