Blank O365/Outlook login window when connecting to a remote server

Some of our users are seeing a blank login popup when they open a Remote Desktop app, or when they open a full RDP session to a remote server (these are all Windows Server 2016). I suspect that what they see, is an Outlook related popup. (when looking at Task Manager, it says Outlook is not responding).

This behavior seems to be random in nature: some users experience this, on some of our remote servers. Which makes it very difficult to troubleshoot.

I already tried :

  • clearing credentials from Credential Manager (those are always empty)
  • repairing/updating O365 applications
  • throwing away the user profile disk
  • reset IE settings in Control Panel

Users can close the popup by clicking on the cross, then they are asked to restart the application. When they do, the application will start normally. But this is highly annoying behavior so I'm wondering if there's a fix for this?

    Hello,

    According to our search and research, some users have encountered similar problems. One of the users reported that the problem was solved by updating Internet Explorer to the latest version. It is recommended that you also try to update your Internet Explorer to the latest version to see if it helps solve the problem you are experiencing.
