Use Excel to connect to an Azure SQL Database

Question

There is no option to connect to an Azure SQL Database in Excel 365 in the Get Data dialog. The only 2 options are

1. From Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2
2. From Azure Data Explorer

Hello,

Try Power Pivot. It provides advanced data modeling features in Excel.

Use "Add Data" in Power Pivot and Get Data from appropriate Data Source.

In case, it does not solve your issue, try Power Query for Excel to import data from many different sources into your Excel workbooks and data models.

In addition to the two options you mentioned, there is also this option: From Azure SQL Database.

If there is no such option, please click File > Account, check the Office version number and version name under "Product Information", I will check the information.

The author of the book says that I need Enterprise Version of Office to see the Option to connect to a Microsoft Azure SQL Database. One of the emails I received (can't find it now) asked for the version number of my 365 installation. Here it is:

I was able to connect to the database using a ODBC connector. The author of the Book 'Mastering Your Data' says that using this connector is more prone to disable 'Query Folding' which adds code to the SQL behind the steps in the Query. If I ever get a job using the skills I'm learning I'm sure my employer will have the tools necessary to accomplish any task I'm given. For my home use I'm not going to buy an Enterprise version of Office even if it comes with a free trip to the moon. On to the next task in the book. Thank you for your help
