I am learning SQL Server on my windows 7 Laptop. And I am trying to install SQL Server Management Studio, I have already installed SQL Express and Local DB, Whenever i try to install SSMS on my Laptop, it freezes on "ManagementToolsConfig_install_postmsi Cpu64" and gives me an error called "Cannot find one or more components. Please Reinstall the application". when i press OK it continues with the setup, then it freezes again on "ManagementAdvancedToolsConfig_install_postmsi Cpu64" and gives the same error. Any help would be appreciated, if anybody wanted to ask about anything, just let me know.

    Hi,Basel Alaa

But will SSMS 16 work on my laptop?

This version of SSMS is supported on the following platforms when used together with the latest available Service Pack: Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 7 (SP1), Windows Server 2012 (64-bit), Windows Server 2012 R2 (64-bit), Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit).

You may need to recheck and install the following components.

Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Shell (Isolated)

Additionally, the experience from this link may be helpful to you.

Your chances that someone would know a solution for that ancient OS are slim.

What I can recommend is to try SSMS 16, which I seem to recall supported Windows 7. Look at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/ssms/release-notes-ssms?view=sql-server-ver16#previous-ssms-releases.

Or consider to move on to Windows 11...
