Sharepoint: Rename or Copy without Download

Hi everyone!

I have a document library with many different powerpoints. I wanted my users to be able to edit the files in the sharepoint without them being able to download the files (which I have somewhat accomplished). But now I need them to be able to create their own versions of the powerpoints but ONLY in sharepoint. I don't want them to be able to download the files.

Is there any way to accomplish this?. Seems to me that it should be as easy as allowing them to copy the file to a new location in sharepoint

I understand that they can screenshot the contents of the file, and that's ok. The value of the powerpoint is in the presentation itself, not on what's written.

    Hi @Pablo,

Here is the permission level users need to copy/move the files to a new target location in SharePoint.

    User's image

The users need at least the "Contribute" permission level so that they can copy/move files. But if the users have "Contribute" permission level, they can download files from the document library.

So in this scenario, I'm afraid it is impossible to allow users to be able to create their own versions of the PowerPoints. If the users can create their own versions, they must copy/move the files from the source document library. The result is as I said above, they can definitely download the files in the target library.

    Hi @Pablo,

As I said in my last answer, it is by design in SharePoint permission. Personally, I completely agree with you, this is indeed a good addition to the current permission setting of SharePoint. Thank you for bringing things to our attention. We sincerely recommend you go to SharePoint Feedback community to provide your feedback: SharePoint · Community (microsoft.com).
