Windows Activation Problem

I have reinstalled Windows 8.1 on my main computer because I had some technical issues.

I installed from my original retail DVD using the card included with it with the product key on. Installation was fine but I now keep getting messages that it can't activate, the latest saying is is an update version, which it isn't.

I cannot find out how to activate by 'phone.

Are the activation servers down? If not how can I activate by phone please?

    Hello,

About how to activate Windows by phone, please follow these steps:

    1. Select the Start button, enter PC settings, and then select PC settings from the list of results.
    2. Select Activate Windows, and then select Contact customer support for help. You may be asked for an admin password or to confirm your choice.
    3. Select your location (or the location nearest to you) from the drop-down list, and then select Next.
    4. Call one of the available phone numbers listed. An automated system will guide you through the activation process.

However, support for Windows 8.1 ended on January 10, 2023. We recommend you move to a Windows 11 PC to continue to receive security updates from Microsoft.
