Yes, this is the exact error I received.

Recap:

I previously had access to Entra Connect as a classic administrator. However, two weeks ago, we removed the classic administrator role from this tenant as required and changed it to an owner role.

Yesterday, when I attempted to access the Entra configuration, I encountered the error mentioned above. I then changed the role to member (it was previously a guest role), but it did not work. Since I needed immediate access to the configuration, I created a new member as a temporary solution.

Queries I have:

I am the global administrator of this tenant and I have the Owner role for the subscription. Why did I encounter the error?

I am unsure if I had the guest role because I was initially invited to this tenant. Is it possible for me to change my role from guest to member and make it work? Logically, it does not make sense, but I would like to know if it is possible.

Thank you for following up on this!

To configure cloud sync you must be member to the tenant.

The document states that the minimum required role is Hybrid Identity Administrator, while the Global Administrator role is the highest privilege in Entra, allowing all configurations to be performed.

Changing from guest to member would alter the user type but not the User Principal Name (UPN), so changing your role from guest to member would not be effective.

Thanks for the update. I've reviewed the suggestion mentioned earlier. Is it possible to remove the account and then add it back as a member? Do you think that could solve the issue?

Hi @Anupa Philip

It is possible to delete the account; however, the same account cannot be re-added as a member. When you create a new user as a member, the user will be assigned the current tenant domain. For instance, if your current domain is @contoso.com, the new user will be created as user@contoso.com.
