MFA requirements for Azure free accounts

How does the mandatory MFA requirement affect free or Pay-As-You-Go accounts? Would I need to purchase a P1 license? I primarily use my account for exam preparation and lab work.

the mandatory MFA requirement affect free or Pay-As-You-Go accounts.

Please take a look here: Scope of enforcement

There is no Microsoft Entra ID P1 or P2 license required:

If you don't have a Microsoft Entra ID P1 or P2 license, you can enable security defaults. Users are prompted for MFA as needed, but you can't define your own rules to control the behavior.
