Mandatory multifactor authentication for Azure

Question

I received a pop up when I logged into the Azure Portal stating that I needed to setup up MFA for my Azure Portal due to the Mandatory multifactor authentication for Azure. I am a little confused as I have 'Security Defaults' enabled for a 'Microsoft Entra ID P1' license type. Which from reading the documentation states that I shouldn't need to complete anything as MFA for Azure login is enabled by default when 'Security Defaults' are enabled, although the pop up I received states that my 'MFA status' is 'Not enforced'.

Is there something I am missing which I should turn on to allow for MFA status to be set to 'enabled'

You most likely need to register for MFA

Even though Security Defaults enforce MFA, users must still register for MFA by setting up their authentication methods as this is now mandatory. if you haven't completed MFA registration, you will need to do so before the deadline
