When I first start a word or excel, it is not responding and freeze for around 15 seconds. After that, all is good. As my desktop can't access to the internet, it it must be some background progress is trying to connect to the internet and wait for the time out. I have already turned off all the add-Ins.

This desktop is in our company's intranet and activated by volume license when it was first installed. Since then it is isolated from the internet.

    Hi,

Did you enable the Office update automatically in PC?

I suggest you try to disable the Office Automatic update:

    1. Start Registry Editor.
    2. Go to the following registry key: “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\policies\microsoft\office\16.0\common\OfficeUpdate
    3. Set the registry values DWORD: EnableAutomaticUpdates to 0

    Hi,

If you cannot find the registry key try to disable hardware acceleration through the Options dialog box. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. In any Office application, select File > Options.
    2. In the Advanced pane, select the Disable hardware graphics acceleration check box.
    3. Select OK.

Load and use graphics driver code can also cause lag or no response.
