Why can't sharepoint handle/upload files from an opened *.zip archive?

When I try to uplad files to Sharepoint from an opened *.zip file (opened in Explorer) I get an error message, that the file I'm trying to upload has no content. So I have to extract the file to a different folder and then upload the file. That's very inconveniant.

Why can't Sharepoint handle zipped files respectively how to directly upload files from an *.zip archive?

Thx + Greets

Frank

    Hi @Hofmann, Frank,

SharePoint does not support uploading files directly from a zip archive. This is not a bug or issue, This behavior is by design and there is no direct workaround for uploading files from a zip archive. To upload files to SharePoint, the files must first be extracted from the zip archive and then uploaded individually or as a group.

Personally, I completely agree with you, this is indeed a good addition to the current features of SharePoint. Thank you for bringing things to our attention. We sincerely recommend you go to SharePoint Feedback community to provide your feedback: SharePoint · Community (microsoft.com). This is the best platform to let related team hear from you and make the products and services better for you and others.

    Thanks.
