Hello, i would like to ask how to fix a problem. When i make a new Excel blank document from the Microsoft 365 Office app it opens, but the file doesn't load and doesn't show me a spreadsheet. It gives me a pop-up that Excel could not open the file, because the file format or extension is not valid. I don't know why it says that, when by default the file extension is .xlsx The thing is that when i go to section File and then i make a new blank document, it makes the document perfectly fine, i can edit it and all that stuff. I wonder how do i solve this problem. Looking to further response.

Best regards, Ivan

To fix the issue of Excel not opening a blank document and giving an error message that the file format or extension is not valid, you can try the following options in the given order:

Option 1: Check for hidden sheets

    • Go to the View tab.
    • Select Unhide.
    • Select a workbook from the list.
    • Select OK.

Option 2: Minimizing and maximizing the window

    • In the top-right corner of the Excel spreadsheet, select the minimize button.
    • In the task tray, right-click Excel, and then select your spreadsheet. (Or double click the Excel icon.)
    • After your sheet is maximized, your data may appear.

    Option 3: Disable hardware acceleration

    • Start any Office 2013, Office 2016, Office 2019, or Microsoft 365 Apps program.
    • On the File tab, select Options.
    • In the Options dialog box, select Advanced.
    • In the list of available options, select the Disable hardware graphics acceleration check box.

    Option 4: Repair Office

    • Try to repair your Office programs. To do this, follow the steps for your installation type and operating system.

If none of the above options work, you can contact Microsoft Support for additional troubleshooting help.

    Hi @ivan ivanov

I suggest you go to File > Account > Product Information, check the Office version number.

Please make sure, the Office is updated to the latest one.

When i make a new Excel blank document from the Microsoft 365 Office app it opens,

If you right-click on the desktop, click "New", create a "Microsoft Excel worksheet", this issue will occur when you open it, am I right?

Or do you mean that blank file was created after opening the Excel app and clicking "Blank Workbook", then this error message appeared?

Any misunderstandings, please let me know.
