How to remove a Directory from my Azure account.

I created a free Azure account some time ago and have been revisiting it today only to find I have a directory associated with a former employer present. I want to remove this directory but seem to be unable to and there are no clear instructions on how to do this.

I have discovered this by clicking on the Settings gear icon and then going to the Directories + Subscriptions menu item.

I can switch between them without a problem and there are no subscriptions associated with either.

When I switch to the directory I want to remove and go to Domain Names, I can see it has several domains associated with it. They are all verified, but I cannot manage these as I have insufficient privileges.

I have looked at the Microsoft article titled "Can't delete a directory through the Azure Management Portal" (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/azure/entra/entra-id/dir-dmns-obj/cannot-delete-directory-azure-portal?wt.mc_id=searchAPI_azureportal_inproduct_rmskilling&sessionId=dbf2fd2cf84a46c8937cca73dc7e31a4) but feel my scenario does not match any of the ones listed.

How can I remove the unwanted directory?
