I am trying to find out if it is possible to import MathML (from an HTML page) into Word with either MathType or Equation Editor.

Please try to copy the MathML code then go to Word document, then choose "Paste Special" > Unformatted Text > OK.
If it does not work, please check whether JohnKorchok's suggestion is helpful.

"Yes" would have worked. This goes above and beyond (not sure what that Document/2006/Math"> is, seems it should be just <math>)
And it seems to be much easier than this implies; I was just surprised to find you can copy the text, <math>....</math>, paste it into word as you would any text, and like magic, an editable equation appears. I did not have to "paste special".
