I developed a WPF application with C#. I also uploaded the application to Github. My goal is to update the applications distributed to users with the new version as the application is developed and new features are added. I do not have the opportunity to buy or rent a server for this right now. I also use Firebase in my project.
How can I do this update event? Which services or methods do I need to use for the update?

In a Freeware app, I used OneDrive, which is free (with a .ini file where I stored the last version and other things, that I read at startup to check is I had to update the app if the new version was > actual version)

You could put the latest version of the project resources (.zip) and version information in Github. When the program is running, access the version information through the URL to determine whether an update is needed. If necessary, you could download the .zip file, unzip it, and replace the original program to achieve the update.

This is an open source third-party library, which may have unnecessary risks. I do not recommend using it directly. At the same time, I hope you could refer to its design method and design your update system according to the design ideas I provide, which could not only simplify the code but also avoid risks.

Yes, you could design your library in the way you mentioned. Of course, some people will use this library directly to implement updates.
However, if it is an update library designed by yourself, you could optimize it according to your personal needs.
For example: if your update needs only require appending some resource files or replacing some script files, you could design the update logic yourself to implement the update (only download the files to be updated from Github, and then replace or append them to the original program), instead of asking users to download a copy of the original program again to implement the update.
