Hello,
It sounds like your Windows 10 laptop is configured to join a domain, possibly the one set up by your family member's school. When you try to log in, it's attempting to authenticate with that domain, but since the laptop isn't connected to the school's network or the domain is not available, you're unable to log in.
Here are some steps you can take to regain access to your laptop:
- Connect to the School Network (If Possible)
If you can, connect the laptop to the school's network. This might allow you to log in and then change the settings so that the laptop is no longer part of the domain.
- Use Another Credential
If you have previously signed in with another credential (e.g., a local account), you should be able to use that to log in. At the login screen, look for an option to switch users or other credentials, and try logging in with a different account.
- Boot into Safe Mode
Restart your laptop and boot into Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, Windows will not attempt to connect to the domain, which may allow you to log in with a local administrator account.
To boot into Safe Mode, please refer to this link:
- Remove from Domain (If You Can Log In)
You may need to provide the domain admin password to complete the process. If you don't have this information, you might need to contact the IT department of the school for assistance.
Best Regards,
Hania Lian
