Steps required to setup an org and users

I'm extremely confused by the the process of obtianing Azure startup credits, signing up as a business/org and using them. I've no idea where/what/how to proceed or if I'm on the right track.

I applied for credits at: https://foundershub.startups.microsoft.com/ whilst signed into LinkedIn with my ***@hotmail.com account. I decided to specify the contact email as ***@qluent.com thinking it made sense as it was the org I need to associate credits with.

Upon approval I was asked to redeem and link the sponsorship credits to an account but I seemed only to be able to use a Microsoft account so I proceeded with my ***@hotmail.com account.

I now have the startup credits and a subscription linked to my ***@hotmail.com account and therefore have an automatic Microsoft Entra ID named ***hotmailcom.onmicrosoft.com.

The question is, did I do this correctly in terms of signing up as an org because it seems incorrect to start adding members to this subscription using the tenant ***hotmailcom.onmicrosoft.com?

Most of the confusion stems from the fact I've signed up with my personal account for work purposes. The ultimate goal is to prepare to create a Teams bot, therefore I also need a Microsoft 365 Business plan and seemingly a business tenant. The next headache.

    @Paul Stoker

It sounds like you’ve done quite a bit of legwork already, but I can understand your confusion given how intricate these processes can be. Let's clarify a few points and steps for you to ensure you're on the right track.

    1. Applying for Credits:
    • You’ve applied for and received Azure startup credits via the Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub using your hotmail.com account. That's fine.
    1. Subscriptions and Microsoft Accounts:
    • Since you've received the credits and linked them to your hotmail.com account, this account now serves as the primary admin for your Azure subscription. This automatically created a Microsoft Entra ID (formerly known as Azure AD) tenant with a domain like hotmailcom.onmicrosoft.com.
    1. Using an Organizational Account:
    • If you intended to run this under a business/organization setup, you're right that using the hotmailcom.onmicrosoft.com tenant might seem a bit off. Typically, organizations would want to have a more formal tenant structure (e.g., qluent.com).

    Next Steps:

    1. Consider Creating a New Tenant: - If you want to maintain a professional organizational structure, you might want to create a new Microsoft Entra ID tenant associated with your business domain (e.g., qluent.com). This would involve setting up a new tenant and potentially transferring your subscription.
    2. Transferring Subscription: - You can transfer the subscription from your current hotmailcom.onmicrosoft.com tenant to your new organizational tenant. This process includes a few steps in the Azure portal and might require some administrative permissions. Here’s how you can proceed:

    Step-by-Step Instructions:

    1. Create a New Tenant:
    • Go to the Azure portal.
    • Navigate to 'Azure Active Directory'.
    • Click on 'Create a tenant'.
    • Follow the prompts to set up a new tenant associated with your organizational domain (e.g., qluent.com).
    1. Transfer Subscription Ownership:
    • Ensure your new tenant has a Global Admin account set up.
    • Navigate to your Azure subscription in the Azure portal.
    • Select 'Change directory' and follow the prompts to assign the subscription to the new directory.
    1. Add Users to the New Tenant:
    • Once the subscription is transferred, you can add member accounts (e.g., employees) to the new tenant through 'Azure Active Directory' > 'Users' > 'New user'.
