Hi Everyone,

In Windows 10 laptop, I have selected Japanese language and my primary IME is Windows IME which doesn't work (doesn't show suggestions/candidates while typing) while using on-screen keyboard. For now I am using Google IME which works with on-screen keyboard.

But at the end my goal is to work with Windows IME, so is it by design that IME is not supported or any issue in my laptop ??

Check IME Language and Input Method Settings:

Manage the input and display language settings in Windows

    Reset IME:

Right click on the Language Bar or click the Options button at the bottom right corner of the Language Bar.

    Select Settings

Select the desired IME from the Default input language list in the Text Services a Input Languages window.

Make sure Google IME is disabled.

If required reinstall the Japanese language pack.

    Make sure Windows is updated.

Open Command Prompt as Admin and copy-paste the following 2 commands one after the other followed by hitting the Enter key:

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    sfc /scannow

    Hello,

Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. Check IME Settings:
      • Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language.
      • Select Japanese and then go to Options.
      • Under Keyboards, make sure Microsoft IME is selected.
      • Click on Microsoft IME options and check if the settings like suggestions and candidates are correctly configured.
    2. Reinstall Japanese Language Pack:
      • Remove the Japanese language pack and then add it again.
      • Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language.
      • Select Japanese and remove it.
      • Restart your laptop.
      • Add Japanese again through the same settings menu.
    3. On-Screen Keyboard Settings:
      • Verify the on-screen keyboard settings. Sometimes the on-screen keyboard might not be properly configured to work with IMEs.
      • Open the on-screen keyboard and ensure it’s set to IME mode (look for an option/menu that lets you switch to IME or input methods).
    4. Reset IME:
      • Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language > Japanese > Options.
      • Find the Microsoft IME settings and look for an option to reset or restore defaults.
    5. Regional Settings:
      • Ensure your regional settings match the language settings. Go to Settings > Time & Language > Region and ensure your region is set to Japan or a region that supports Japanese.

    Best Regards,

    Yanhong Liu
