Create new site collection with Variation Lables in different content database

Hi Experts,

I have a intranet portal, web application with default site collection created with Variation Labels for "English", "Arabic" & "French" and the URLs like below

English: https://xyz.com/en/home.aspx
Arabic: https://xyz.com/ar/home.aspx
French: https://xyz.com/fr/home.aspx

I would like to create another site collection for HR, under the same web application but in different content database.

my question is, if i create another site collection will it occupies the same Variation Labels settings? like below URLs

English: https://xyz.com/en/HR/home.aspx
Arabic: https://xyz.com/ar/HR/home.aspx
French: https://xyz.com/fr/HR/home.aspx

Please guide me here.

Hi, @Mercury Man ,

Variations are individual instances of a website that are localized and/or translated for a particular language and locale. Variation sites are built hierarchically with the root site at the top and all language variants beneath it. The source and targets sit one level below the root. Here’s an example:

The variation basically works on site collection level.

And I assume the HR site collection URL will be like https://xyz.com/HR/home.aspx. For variations, it will be like
English: https://xyz.com/HR/en/home.aspx
Arabic: https://xyz.com/HR/ar/home.aspx
French: https://xyz.com/HR/fr/home.aspx

So we do not have issues about occupying the same variation label. You need to create new labels for the new site collection.

if you will create another site collection for HR the same variation settings won't be applied there. Variation labels/settings are defined on site collection level - and there may be only 1 variation source per site collection. I.e. on HR site collection you will need to configure variations again: Sharepoint variations guide. Part 1 – overview.
