Access denied trying to delete local folders sync-ed by OneDrive since version 24.171

Hello,

Since some days we started having problems with various applications which use folders located under the sync-ed OneDrive folder. Suddenly the applications started not being able to delete empty folders and the reported reason is "Access is denied" despite permissions being OK.

The OS is Windows 10 (19045.4894) and all this seemed to have started around the 19th of September, and it seems to be related to the newly installed 24.171 version of OneDrive.

After some trial and error, we were able to consistently reproduce the issue using a simple .bat file and we can prove that everything works correctly if we downgrade to version 24.156.

We also tried the last version from the preview channel (24.195.0926.0001) in the hope that some fixes were implemented meanwhile, but the problem still persists.

Do you know of any changes implemented between 24.156 and 24.171 which could cause the above problems?

If useful we can test some more in between versions to more closely identify the version when the problem first appeared.

I've been having issues with certain applications that fail to delete subfolders because of this bug I had to move the target folders with symlinks so they work. Please remove this stupid deny permission. I can understand this making sense in a business environment , but not on a personal machine.

FYI: the problem was apparently fixed in the 24.197.0930.0001 Insiders Version released on the 1st of October.

Unfortunately this problem still exists on build 24.206.1013.0004 which I have installed. I can confirm that it is definitely OneDrive at fault by replicating the steps with OneDrive either running (problem exists) or not running (problem goes away). As a workaround I have a scheduled task running "attrib -r /s /d" every 15 minutes to revert the change. Not ideal, but it works for my particular requirement.

Hi Sam,

Thanks for reporting about your workaround - unfortunately it is not helpful in our case.

And yes, we also just tested 24.206 - the current version from the Production ring - and unfortunately I can confirm that the issue is again/still there.

Strange, because I am sure it was fixed in the 24.197 Insiders version, but it seems that the change/fix was not included into the 24.206 version :-((

Too bad the development process for OneDrive is very opaque and there are no meaningful changelogs published anywhere and there is no "public" place (github?) to report issues.
