head phone jack being crappy

I recently sent in my Xbox controller to get its stick drift fixed before the warranty ran out, but instead of it getting fixed they sent me back a different worse controller. One of the sticks felt slightly off, and the headphone jack gives me lots of static. Now, the headphone jack won't even pick up my headset's mic. I've tried using multiple headsets, so I know that's not the problem. Is there a way I can get my old controller back or get this one in to get fixed for free even though the warranty is over?
