Linux VM datadisk erased on restart

Hi. I made a datadisk that I mounted on Linux VM as datadrive. I now setup my subversion repository and all was great.
Now I made it auto shutdown at night, and after starting it up in the morning. The repository was not there.
I checked the linux vm, and and my datadrive was now sda1 instead of sdc1. These things happen fine. But the datadrive is now completely empty!
This is not temporary storage, so what happened?

Thanks in advance
Odin
