I've been encountering the same issue in Microsoft Teams custom app where a red warning banner with no text appears.

After investigating through Chrome's developer console, I found that the error message reads: "failed reason: AppInitTimeout".

Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Vineeth KK, Anjana Manoj - We see this issue very intermittently and that too while adding the tab. Could you please share a sample app package where this banner is showing up every time. Please share the app package at microsoftteamsdev@microsoft.com. As an initial analysis team said that Teams renders this banner when we do not initialize the Teams SDK. To investigate further we would need an app package with consistent repro. Thank you.

Vineeth KK - Engineering team has looked into the app package and said that the warning banner is working as expected because the website mentioned in the app package is pointing to a site which is completely unaware of Teams. This site doesn't import teams-js.

@Meghana-MSFT From MS documentation for webpage tabs, it is specified that additionally you can add Teams Javascript library. It is not a must right? Link: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/platform/tabs/what-are-tabs?tabs=personal

Hi Vineeth KK - Engineering team has confirmed that now it is mandatory to initialise SDK for static tabs as well. Within your content page, add a reference to Microsoft Teams JavaScript client library using script tags. After your page loads, make a call to app.initialize(), or else your page isn't displayed.

We will update the doc to update the sentence like below -
you need to add the Teams JavaScript client library to your page, and call microsoftTeams.initialize() after your page loads. This also allows Teams to know that your app has loaded.

We fix this issue by adding microosoft sdk to our project and initialize the sdk after the view is loaded

Could you provide a bit more detailed about your fix/workaround @Vineeth KK ? Ideally what you changed.

@Dan Rosenstein I'm not sure to understand your response. Do you mean that you can't debug because you can't reproduce the issue locally?

This issue is quite impactful on our side. It systematically display the error message. If you need anything to help me, please let me know.

@Bob Fifty Yes. Our local develop/debug flow is broken because we can't install our local debug build (under VSCode) due to this issue.
