I setup the VPN on my 2022 server. I also setup active directory. I ran through and setup the user and assigned them the Remote Desktop roles. When I try to connect to the Server with VPN, I get goes through connecting, Verifying Username and Password, then goes back to connecting and just sits there doing nothing. I checked my VM network and I do not see anything blocking, but just to be sure, I temporarily removed the location restrictions I had in placed.

    Hi PC PLACE,

Thank you for posting in the Q&A Forums.

    VPN connection status confirmation:

Ensure that the VPN connection has been successfully established and that the network connection is stable.

Check the logs of the VPN client for any errors or warning messages.

    Remote Desktop Services check:

Confirm that Remote Desktop Services (RDS) is running on the server.

Check the configuration of Remote Desktop Services to ensure that remote desktop access has been assigned to the appropriate users.

Check the Remote Desktop Services logs for any connection-related errors or warnings.

    User authentication:

Verify that you are using the correct username and password and that the user has been added to Active Directory.

Check the Active Directory logs for any authentication-related errors or warnings.

    Network configuration and firewall:

Although you have already mentioned that you checked the VM network and did not see any blocking, it is still recommended to double-check the server's firewall settings to make sure that the port required for remote desktop connections (usually 3389) is open and not blocked by the firewall.

If the server is on a different subnet or VLAN, make sure that routing is configured correctly and that network traffic can reach the server smoothly.

    DNS Resolution:

Ensure that the DNS server is able to resolve the server's name or IP address correctly.

If you are using a private DNS resolver, make sure that it is configured correctly and is able to resolve domain names required for Active Directory and Remote Desktop Services.

    Server load and resources:

Check the server's CPU, memory, and disk usage to ensure that the server is not overloaded or under-resourced.

If the server load is high, it may cause the Remote Desktop connection to respond slowly or not be established.

    Client Configuration:

Check the configuration of your VPN client and Remote Desktop Client to make sure they match the server-side settings.

Try using a different remote desktop client or updating to the latest version to see if that solves the problem.

    Logs and Event Viewer:

Use the Windows Event Viewer to view logs and events related to the remote desktop connection.

This may provide more detailed information about why the connection failed.

    Reconnection attempts:

Sometimes, simply restarting the VPN client and Remote Desktop client, or restarting the server, can resolve connection issues.

    Best regards

    NeuviJ
