Maximum Path Length Limitation doesn't work with Windows server 2022

Question

Hi,

I installed a Windows Server 2022 Standard as a Virtual Machine in host with VMware 6.7.0

I updated the registry value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem LongPathsEnabled (Type: REG_DWORD) to 1

I also updated the local computer policiy " Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Filesystem" and enabled "NTFS long paths"

And it still doesn't work.

When I try to create a new folder from the file explorer Windows I obtain this issue.

What can I do to break the path 260 characters limitation?

Follow this steps :-

1-Restart the System

2-Check User Permissions

3-Verify VMware Configuration

Check if there are any restrictions in the VMware settings or VM configuration that could affect path length or file system operations.

4-Update VMware Tools

Make sure that VMware Tools is up to date in your virtual machine, as this can sometimes resolve compatibility issues.

5-System Updates

Ensure that Windows Server 2022 is fully updated with the latest patches and updates from Microsoft.

Hi @Zeyad Alezzi, thanks for your answer.

1- I restarted the System
2- I loggin with the user administrator
3- I think the configuration of WMware is right. I joint it:

4- VMware tools are right updated

5- System are also updated.

The only thing is that server have a test licenses for 180 days.
I am waiting for the final license...

It's a very annoying problem that I need to solve.

Hello

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

This error cause by folder path is too long, solution is for set registry LongPathsEnabled value to 1

Maximum Path Length Limitation - Win32 apps | Microsoft Learn

If you are sure LongPathsEnabled registry value is been set at Virtual Machine windows server 2022

you can try to shorter this folder path to make it work.

Hi,

I already change this setting with the same isue.

It's really frustrating, we're about to buy 40 licenses for Windows Server 2022 and one of the main problems we're having right now seems to be the same with Windows Server 2022!
