PDFs embedded in word docx won't open

I have a docx file, with embedded pdf files
I have adobe DC installed and set as default app for pdf files
Double clicking on a file does nothing at all, no error, no blink, nothing,
How can one open embedded pdf files?

Does this issue occur with all inserted pdf files in other documents?
Is this file saved locally or in the cloud, such as OneDrive?
Please refer to Viorel's suggestion, right-click on this pdf to have a check.If there is a menu, you may choose "Object" > "Activate Contents".
If this pdf still cannot be opened, you may click "Object" > "Properties", check whether it is opened via Adobe DC.

If I right click and choose object, it's not a menu, it opens saying "This object is corrupt or no longer available", however exactly the same file works fine for a colleague on libreOffice.

If your colleague saves one pdf file as a new one and insert it back to the document, can it be opened in Word?

2024-10-15T09:22:39.88+00:00 If the menu contains Object instead of Open, then probably the PDF file was inserted using the “Link to file” option, but the linked separate PDF file does not currently exist.
Check if the feature works when some PDF file is embedded without the “Link to file” option.

2024-10-15T13:06:53.31+00:00 If the PDf was linked to, but doesn't exist, why can my colleague open them in Libre.
If they try re-inserting that doesn't help when I receive documents from 3rd parties where I cannot open the document. I need to be able to without having to send it to someone else to extract and re-insert files... there could be many revisions to a doc, and doing this every ten minutes is not acceptable.
