How to enable USB Redirection on Windows Server 2022?

Hello,

I am trying to redirect a Thrustmaster Flight controller (game joystick) to a Windows 2022 Server VM on Azure. I followed the settings and on my remote desktop application I see the option to redirect RemoteFX devices and I see the device as supported RemoteFX device..

But the Azure VM is not recognizing the device. In Device Manager I see unknown other device and unknown port as if drivers are missing, but I cannot update drivers. I try to but it neither wants to update them not install them from a location.

I am using the NGADS VM that is specific for gaming. It would be stupid if a gaming rig has no controller support.

I really hope it's something from the settings or policies, but I am getting desperate as I have been trying to fix this for weeks.

Can anyone please, help me? I don't want to use third-party tools as they are super expensive and I tried some and they are problematic. I should be able to use Microsoft tools like the RDP client application.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft community forum.

To enable RemoteFX USB redirection, please check the following configuration in Group policy:

    On the remote server side:

Open the Group Policy editor: press Win + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter.

Navigate to: Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop Session Host -> Device and Resource Redirection.

    • Double click Do not allow supported plug and play device redirection, set it to Disabled

    On the local client:

    Open the Group Policy editor.

Navigate to: Computer Configuration -> Administration Templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop Connection Client -> RemoteFX USB Device Redirection.

    • Double click Allow RDP redirection for other RemoteFX USB devices supported in this computer to set it to Enabled and set RemoteFX USB redirection access to administrators and users

After these Settings are complete, restart your server and client computers for the configuration to take effect.

    I hope this helps.

    Best regards

    Jacen
