Microsoft Office Professional 2024 upgrade from Office Professional 2021

I have been running Microsoft Office Professional 2021 on two computers. Both are licensed to my Microsoft Account. Today I purchased a 3 PC license for Microsoft Office Professional 2024. I downloaded the installer and ran it on the first computer. It made me uninstall the 2021 version, then allowed me to install the 2024 version with no problems. I checked the version on Word and Excel, and both are 2024. Publisher is now missing, as I expected. I was not asked for the new license, so I guess I purchased it unnecessarily.

On the second computer, unlike on the first computer, running the installer merely placed a folder named package and a batch file named start in my downloads folder. It did open the installer routine or tell me to uninstall the old version. Trying to run the start batch file accomplishes nothing. What can I do to upgrade Office on this second computer?

Both computers are running Windows 11 Pro 23H2 with all updates installed.
