Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Q&A.

I understand that you are trying to change your account name "Microsoft Entra ID" to your company name.

Follow the below steps to rename your account:

Login into your azure portal with your credentials.
Go to your Entra Id tenant.
Go to Overview>Properties.
Click on the name and change this from whatever your tenant is currently called to your company name.
Select save at the bottom of your screen.
The update takes a few seconds, then you see a success message. See the below image for your reference:

Then try to sign in into your authenticator app, you can see that your "Microsoft Entra ID" account name is changed to your company name in your account.

As a start, thank you for your response

I followed your instructions noting the below image contains the updated name as you suggested per the red highlighted box on the Properties tab.

I noticed per the red highlighted box on the Overview tab that the name did not update in that it still reads differentiatedsolutions.ca rather than Differentiated Solutions.

I then -- after allowing two or three hours for the change to propagate -- that there was no change to Authenticator (i.e., it still read "Microsoft Entra ID").

Please advise as to next steps.

I understand that there was no change in the company name even you followed the exact steps

Try to register your account again in authenticator app.

Check if it is updated.

I can register my account again in the authenticator app but have a few related questions before doing so:

Do I first need to first delete the account from Authenticator?

How do I register my account again with authenticator given that when I go to my Office 365 account page I do not see the "Sign In With QR Option"?

Hi @Joel

For registering account again in authenticator app, you need not delete account from Authenticator app.

Contact your global admin, To Re-register multifactor authentication.

After Re-registering multifactor authentication, it will again ask for sign in, it automatically generates QR-Scan.

Then follow the steps to change account name, then account name is updated.

Hi Bandela, apologies for the further questions but here goes:

I am the owner of a small company and am thus the Administrator of the account. How do I re-register the account?

I understand the scanning of the QR code - I have done that before - but do not understand your comment "Then follow the steps to change account name, then account name is updated." Is it not the case that since the account has already been changed -- per my above post -- that the upon re-registration the account name should change in Authenticator.

Much thanks for your help, it is greatly appreciated.

For Re-registering multifactor authentication. Follow below steps:

Make sure you create another user and assign Global admin role so that in further when your account is locked it may help you.

1.Sign in to the Azure portal with global admin credentials.

2.On the left, select Microsoft Entra Id > Users > All users.

3.Choose your account->select Authentication methods and click "Require re-registration for MFA".

4.Then Click Ok, then this will deactivate and delete all the authentication methods.

Then sign out your account and again sign in your account it prompts you to set up MFA again. This usually involves scanning a QR code with an authenticator app. Complete the setup by entering the code provided by your authenticator app then you can see your account name is updated to company name in authenticator app.

I have one follow up before giving it a try, where do you want me to sign / sign out of my account; for example, should I sign out of my account on Outlook or MS-Teams and then try signing back in?

Once I have a response to this I will give it a try.

The entire process is done in azure portal, so you need to sign out your account in azure portal. Then again you sign in the azure account with your credentials, it prompts to MFA.

This usually involves scanning a QR code with an authenticator app. Complete the setup by entering the code provided by your authenticator app then you can see your account name is updated to company name in authenticator app.

Again, HUGE thank you for your assistance.

Good news and confusion / follow ups:

I went to perform the log-in / log-out as you explained in your above post but first noticed that there was no need to as the Authenticator name had been updated. It appears -- at least in this case -- that it takes a number of days for the name to propagate from the Entra Portal to Authenticator. THANK YOU FOR SOLVING THIS FOR ME.

I went to change a different / second Entra ID following this same procedure you described above in your first response but when I changed the "Name" field the "SAVE" button was greyed out per the below. How can I change / fix this so that the SAVE button is no longer greyed out?

I have no recollection as to what this account is used for an cannot recall logging into this account in a very long time (i..e, years) which leads to:

Is it safe to delete / remove the account from the Authenticator app on the basis that it will be "re-installed" / re-appear if and when I next use the account?

Were I to decide to remove the Account / Entra ID as I have no recollection of its need / use and do not think I have used it in years, how would I delete it from Entra?

I understand that "save" button is greyed out, in the name tab, change the name to your desired company name, then you can click on "save" button.

If you want to remove your account in Entra:

Sign in to the Microsoft Entra admin center, browse to Identity > Overview > Manage tenants, select the tenant you want to delete, and then select Delete.

It sounds really good that your previous issue as resolved.

Bandela, I know I sound like a broken record but thank you, I really appreciate the help. It is WONDERFUL news that the previous issues has been resolved.

In terms of the name change, I did try changing the name but the "SAVE" but remained greyed out per the below image. In point of fact the "SAVE" button is greyed out while the "DISCARD" button is now "active". How can this be solved:

In response to your suggested approach please note:

a) Per the below image, I confirm that I do have Global Administrator privileges:

b) I signed out of Entra Admin Centre and signed back into the Entra Admin Centre as you suggested and per the below the "SAVE" button continues to be greyed out!

It is worth noting that when I toggle to have management rights to Azure the "SAVE" button remans greyed out (i.e., I can get the admin rights.)

Please advise as to next steps.

I tried the approach you detailed to the letter and had no success.

I wonder whether other authorization / permissions are needed elsewhere to effect the change despite already having Global Administration rights.

I cannot tell you what happened but all of a sudden I the SAVE button is active.

I did change the NAME field. I will revert in a few days and let you know whether it worked (as it took a few days to propagate last time).
