I have Dell laptop that I bring back and forth from home and office. In both places I have an external monitor. In both places I have USB-C connected hub that connects to both power and monitor and another USB-C Hub for a few other devices. Regardless of whether I'm in my office or home location, once I connect the two USB connections the laptop will not recognize the external monitor. I have to manually unplug both USB connections, switch ports and plug back in and then it works. Since this happens in both locations I imagine there's something off with the Dell Laptop. Anyone heard of this?

    Hello

This problem with your Dell laptop not recognizing the external monitor through the USB-C hub is not uncommon. Here are a few potential solutions you can try:

Update Drivers and BIOS: Ensure that all your drivers, especially the graphics and USB-C drivers, are up to date. Also, check for any BIOS updates on the Dell support website.

Check USB-C Ports: Some USB-C ports on laptops and monitors may not support video output. Make sure you are using the correct USB-C port that supports video.

Reset Display Configuration: Go to Settings > System > Display and click on Detect under the Multiple displays section to see if Windows can recognize the external monitor.

Dell Display Manager: Install and use the Dell Display Manager software. Sometimes, enabling the "Display Matrix Control" option can help in recognizing multiple displays.

Try Different Ports: Sometimes, switching the USB-C ports or using a different combination of ports can resolve the issue.

Manual Connection: As a temporary workaround, continue manually reconnecting the USB-C hubs as you have been doing.

If these steps don't resolve the issue, it might be worth reaching out to Dell support for further assistance. They might have more specific solutions based on your laptop model.
