Remote Desktop Client Transitioning to Windows App -- Will it still be available to download?
Will the Remote Desktop Client application still be available for download after the EOS date on 12/27/24? We use the URL below to download the client on users' machines. I know I read it won't be available in the Windows Store, but I don't believe I've seen anything about it being available for download on the page below.

Thank you for reaching out to us on the Microsoft Q&A forum.
Based on your inquiry, we currently don't have any updates available as per the documentation. We will inform you if we receive any new information. Transitioning early ensures that they benefit from the latest features, improvements, and security updates, as the old version will no longer receive any support or updates after that date.If the information is helpful, please consider by clicking the "Upvote" on the post.

2024-10-31T14:06:47.91+00:00 Thank you Srinud. I do have a follow-up question too. Is there any date or plan to start disallowing the old Remote Desktop client from connecting to AVD environments. I know there is an end-of-support date for 12/27, but will the old clients still be able to connect to AVD environments?

2024-11-04T18:22:43.6566667+00:00 Hi displayName,
Thank you for your patience.!
I have discussed with our internal team, the Windows App will eventually replace the existing Remote Desktop client app, this will be announced, and the document will be updated soon.
The new Windows App supports multimonitor setups now, users are recommended at adopting the new Windows App as this will be the preferred client experience. If the information is helpful, please consider by clicking the "Upvote" on the post.

2024-11-12T15:55:16.2733333+00:00 Hello Srinud.
My impression is that the 'Azure Virtual Desktop client' in MS Store is being replaced by 'Windows App' and MacOS and iOS are replacing 'Remote Desktop Client' with 'Windows App'. What happens to 'Remote Desktop Client'?
When I search Microsoft Store for 'Azure Virtual Desktop' I see 3 options: 'Azure Virtual Desktop Preview', 'Microsoft Remote Desktop', and 'Windows App'." Will 'Remote Desktop Client' also be replaced by 'Windows App'?
We received an Azure notification email on Oct 31st stating:
"Azure Virtual Desktop app from the Microsoft Store will no longer be available for download or installation starting 27 November 2024
Starting 27 November 2024, the Azure Virtual Desktop app from the Microsoft Store will no longer be available for download or installation. Users of the Azure Virtual Desktop app need to transition to Windows App.
Azure Virtual Desktop customers will continue to receive support for the Azure Virtual Desktop app until it reaches end of support on 27 December 2024. After that date, it will no longer be eligible for support and won’t receive security or feature updates."
Our concern is that we have 1000+ thin clients that cannot run MS Store or install MSIX packages due to running Win10 LTSC so we cannot (to my knowledge) run Windows App.
Is MS deprecating the 'Remote Desktop Client application' or just making it no longer available in the MS Store?
Will we be able to continue downloading the Remote Desktop Client msi installer from the AVD client page?
Will Remote Desktop Client be blocked from connecting to AVD?
Thank you for providing some insight here.

2024-11-13T20:18:18.6666667+00:00 Hi, Srinud. My question about whether or not the older Remote Desktop client will be able to connect to AVD environments after the 11/27 or 12/27 deadlines. Can you clarify if the old client will still be able to connect to AVD or not?

2024-11-15T09:19:55.59+00:00 Hi Srinud.
I have the same query above as per AnAvgHuman123 comment above.
Is MS deprecating the 'Remote Desktop Client application' or just making it no longer available in the MS Store?
Will we be able to continue downloading the Remote Desktop Client msi installer from the AVD client page?
Thank you

2024-11-15T14:31:44.4766667+00:00 I believe what is happening is that the MS Store and MacOS/iOS versions of 'Azure Virtual Desktop client' and 'Remote Desktop Client' are being deprecated in favor of 'Windows App' while the Windows MSI installable is continuing.
The AVD Client Overview page lists the clients by platform: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-desktop/users/remote-desktop-clients-overview
The 'Windows' platform link has no deprecation/EoL message. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-desktop/users/connect-remote-desktop-client?tabs=windows
The 'Store app for Windows' links both have a 'No longer available' message. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-desktop/users/connect-legacy-windows?tabs=avd-store
I have a ticket open with MS asking for confirmation.

2024-11-21T10:19:37.25+00:00 Hi displayName,
Thank you for your patience.
Currently, we do not have any updates regarding the older Remote Desktop client. I recommend submitting a support ticket so that the Azure technical support team can assist you with this. If you're unable to open a technical support ticket, please let me know, and I will be happy to assist you further.

2024-11-21T17:57:16.38+00:00 I have received a response from Azure support. According to internal team, the Windows platform will also be replaced by 'Windows App'. Release notice and documentation updates do not yet have an ETA. No indication yet if a standard MSI installer will be available.
So it seems the standard RD Client MSI installer will be available for a while yet.

2024-11-21T20:52:44.5533333+00:00 To piggy back I have a few questions.
- Can the App be renamed to something not related to all Windows Apps, searching for articles regarding this switch is not the best when the app is called "Windows App". Maybe "Windows Remote App Client".
- I have downloaded the Windows App Installer.exe from Microsoft and it fails to install on Windows 10 Pro, Windows 11 Enterprise. The only way to install is via Microsoft Store. I have 1000's of PCs I need to push this out to, is there a plan to actually have the installer actually work?
- After December 27th, will the current RDP Client (Azure Virtual Desktop) still work if it is installed via the offline installer?

2024-12-05T19:28:00.0066667+00:00 @Greg Zink Where did you find an Exe? I only know about the MS Store and the MSIX package from here https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-app/whats-new?tabs=windows#latest-release
Win 10 Pro and Win 11 Enterprise should be able to install the MSIX app package.
Also, totally agree about the poor naming choice. 'Windows App' is literally every application ever created to run in Windows haha

2025-03-28T09:04:17.1266667+00:00 Does anyone know if it is possible to make "Windows App Installer.exe" (which looks like an online installer) available in a stand alone "msi" format? ... and if it is possible to run the installation in silent mode for all users? Thanks
