conditional formula for Microsoft list

why didn't this formula work in Microsoft list?

=if(or([$JobType]=='Electric', [$JobType]=='Gas'), 'true', 'false')

    Are you using calculated column to make it?

    If so, please try the following formula, which works in my environment.

    =IF(OR(JobType="Electric",JobType="Gas"),"True","False")
