Label multiple instances of the same field on the same page

Hi Experts,

I am using Document Intelligence Custom Model to extract data from invoices.

I have a use case - A field can have multiple values in 1 page. I need to extract all the values in the same field as I need their sum. But while labelling it is allowing me to label only one of them i.e

1 value for 1 field

Eg. A field 'amount' is present at multiple places, I need data from all the instances, as I don't know the exact no. of instances of the field so I can't use different fields for each of the instance like amount_1, amount_2.

Can you please suggest how to achieve this task?

However, the tool you're using only allows you to label one value per field, which is a problem because you don't know how many amounts there will be on each page. Here are some ways to handle this:

If your model supports it, you can define the 'amount' field as a list. This way, the model can capture multiple values for the same field and store them in a list format. You can then sum these values programmatically after extraction.

Extract all text from the invoice and use a script to find and sum all the amounts. This involves searching the text for numbers that represent amounts and adding them together.

If the tool allows, you could create a custom labelling schema where you label each instance of the 'amount' field with a unique identifier. After extraction, you can programmatically sum these fields.

Train your model to recognize and extract multiple instances of the same field. This might involve creating a more complex model that can handle multiple annotations for the same field type.

However, since you mentioned that you are using the 2023 API version, it is important to note that overlapping fields require at least one sample in your dataset that contains overlapping labels for those fields.

If your model does not support the amount field as a list, you may need to reconsider your labeling strategy or upgrade to a newer API version that supports this functionality. The API version 2024-11-30 (GA) supports overlapping fields and may provide the functionality you need.
