How to use the SharePoint Org-Chart web part related to AD when the department head manages two different departments?

Hi all,

hopefully someone has an idea how to solve that ;-)

We are using the "Org-Chart" web part on our SharePoint page, which accesses data from the AD (Active Directory).

In this case, the manager, "Max Muster," is currently at the top position of his department (Field Sales). Now, he should also be listed as the head of the Inside Sales department—meaning he would appear twice as the head of his own department.

The problem is that, in Active Directory, we can only assign him to one department.

Is there any way to assign the manager, "Max Muster," to two different departments as the manager/top position?

Please let me know if this explanation is clear or if you need any further information.

Once again, thank you very much for your support.

Best regards,

Mario

    Hi @Mario Heimbuchner ,

Thank you for providing the details. I understand that you want to list Max Muster as the head of both the Field Sales and Inside Sales departments in the "Org-Chart" web part on your SharePoint page, but Active Directory only allows assigning him to one department.

Unfortunately, Active Directory does not support assigning a single user to multiple departments directly.

However, there are a few workarounds you can consider:

    1. Use of Multiple User Accounts: Another approach is to create a secondary user account for Max Muster in Active Directory and assign this account to the second department. This is not ideal as it requires managing multiple accounts for the same person.
    2. Custom Script or Web Part: You can develop a custom script or web part that pulls data from Active Directory. This requires you to be very experienced in customization.
    3. Utilizing a third-party solution that supports more complex organizational structures.

Hope the information can help you!
