How to fix Hyperlink to Microsoft Forms page that results in deprecation error

Help! I have a training PowerPoint presentation that has a link to a Microsoft Forms quiz at the end. I've used this format for several years, but now the link only works for me and no one else. Any time I send the file for another user to open, the link comes up as deprecated...as in attachment. Even if I resend the old file it no longer works. All that said, if I have another user open the Microsoft Forms link directly there are no problems. The link works for me in all instances.

I have tried both the short and long versions of the link as generated by Microsoft Forms.

I am currently using Microsoft Office LTSC Professional Plus 2021 but have also tried creating Forms and presentations using the 2016, 2019, and 365 versions.

Thank you for any guidance you can offer.

Adriana

    Hi @Adriana T

the link comes up as deprecated...as in attachment.

For better analysis, could you please share us with more information to troubleshoot this issue?

    • Is there any message on "attachment"? Please share us with a screenshot.
    • Does this issue occur with other presentations with these Form quiz links?
    • What version of Office are users who cannot open the Forms link using? Are they use Office 2019?

I suggest you create a new simple quiz to check whether this issue occurs.

Besides, please select "Anyone can respond" under "Collect responses" and copy link to sliders.

Hello and thank you for the response!

Nothing shows up other than a blank web page and the link showing deprecated as in the attachment.

I did create a new quiz using one of the starter templates on the app. It still has this same problem when other users try to open--they can open the link directly but not when it is a hyperlink in a PP presentation. Here is the quiz:

    https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=rsPufU2bfkurF2ocVMUej9wj00wzT-dJhwNytnlyaV5URUlFN1pIUTZaRUNOU1JFWkZDN0s1WTVKWS4u

    or

    settings for the quiz:

I can open links successfully both using a hyperlink within Powerpoint and direct copy/paste of the link. Other users can open the link directly but get the deprecated line when using the hyperlink.

I hope that this information is what you are looking for.

I am having the same problem. The Forms link works for me, but not for colleagues. It also works for people outside our organisation. Please note, it worked for my colleagues as recently as last week.

The only difference I can detect is browser - I have Explorer as default and clicking the link from where it's inserted into a Word Doc opens fine. When my colleagues click the same link from the same Word Doc and it attempts to open in Chrome, the URL that attempts to open is:

forms.office.com/Pages/DepreciationPage.aspx?path= AND then the normal forms URL resumes.

If they cut and paste the link from the Word Doc into their browser, it works (obviously because there is no "DepreciationPage" insert). The Form is also clearly working for others as responses are still being collected. It just won't open under certain circumstances. Is there any explanation?

    I'm experiencing the same problem.

I agree that it seems to only be Chrome that is doing this.

Furthermore, it only seems to be hyperlinks in a Word document.

Additionally, it only seems to be a problem if the Word document is opened in the Word desktop app (we have Word 2019), as opposed to the cloud version of Word, where the link works.

    To summarise:

    • Microsoft Forms form created (e.g. the links in the example above)
    • These links work perfectly every way I've tried, EXCEPT...
      • Paste the hyperlink into a document in the desktop version of Word (specifically)
      • Ctrl-Click to open the hyperlink
      • If it defaults to opening in Chrome (specifically), the link fails with the DeprecationPage bit added to the URL
