Authenticator app not working when I switch to another directory in azure portal

When I logged into the Azure portal, the Authenticator app sent a notification to my phone, and I was able to log in. However, when I tried to switch to another directory (as shown in the screenshot), the Azure portal asked me to enter the code displayed in the Microsoft Authenticator app on my mobile device. I entered the code but received an error: "You didn't enter the expected verification code. Please try again." I tried this many, many times but had no luck.

Now I have no way to switch the directory, which is really frustrating. :(

Why did the Authenticator app work when I logged into the Azure portal, but not when I tried to switch directories?
