How to setup Microsoft teams room resource accounts for companys that host their email with google?

I have client who email is hosted with google who would like to roll out Microsoft Teams Room Devices.

  • We can create onmicrosoft.com for user account then allocated teams basic licenses to the this user.
  • We can then login into the Teams device with that email and undertake calls/sharing etc. 1st Issue when we allocate Teams Room Pro licenses we can seem to get the account ot now log in

2nd Issue - Is there a way to create resource accounts using our clients domain emails rather than onmicrosoft.com

This article provides good breakdown on the linking up user microsoft and google user accounts.

    @Neil Steffensen

Setting up Microsoft Teams Room (MTR) resource accounts for a company that hosts its email with Google can indeed present some challenges. Here’s a step-by-step guide that should help address your issues:

Step 1: Set Up Microsoft 365 Environment

    1. Admin Center Setup:
    • Ensure that you have administrative access to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
    • If you don't already have one, set up a Microsoft 365 environment. Even though your primary emails are hosted with Google, you will need the Microsoft 365 environment for managing Teams and related subscriptions.

Step 2: Configure Hybrid Environment (Optional)

    • You might consider setting up a hybrid environment that allows coexistence between Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. This is particularly useful if you want to use your primary domain for resource accounts.

    Step 3: Create User Accounts

    1. OnMicrosoft Domain Accounts:
    • As you mentioned, you can create user accounts using the onmicrosoft.com domain. These accounts can be used to log into the Teams devices.
    1. Custom Domain Accounts:
    • To use your client's primary domain for Teams accounts, you need to verify the domain in Microsoft 365. This involves adding DNS records provided by Microsoft to your DNS host.

    Step 4: Verify Custom Domain

    1. Verify Your Domain:
    • Go to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
    • Navigate to Settings > Domains.
    • Add your client’s domain and follow the instructions to verify ownership via DNS records.
    1. Create Resource Accounts with Verified Domain:
    • Once the domain is verified, you can create resource accounts (like room accounts) using the verified domain.

    Step 5: Assign Licenses

    1. Assign Teams Room Pro Licenses:
    • Go to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
    • Navigate to Users > Active Users.
    • Select the user or resource account and click on "Licenses and Apps."
    • Assign the Teams Room Pro license to the account.

Step 6: Configure Microsoft Teams Rooms

    1. Log Into Teams Devices:
    • Use the accounts you've created (either onmicrosoft.com or your verified domain accounts) to log into the Teams Room Devices.
    • Ensure that the account has the correct license assigned.
