Trying to pinpoint the actual issue by three parallel symptoms?

Hi,

I thought it's important to rule out bad state of configuration by comparing three evidently parallel misplacements which would be discordant with the clean state of Disk Management and Data Collector Sets in diagnostics for multiple diskdrives.

(1) A SeaTools application reads incorrectly the free space of a disk without diagnosing any fault in Self-Tests and Generic Tests, long and short either.

(2) The same symptom obviously familiar to the previous, is with diskpart.exe where not the same disk as above, but the OS disk is listed (list disk) with free space designated by the small amount of unallocated space instead its actual one.

(3) And the actual symptom which relates all three together is at AdvancedSettings\System\SetVirtualPage where any allocation for virtual memory from another disk than the OS disk is rejected at reboot even if previously has been displayed at Task Manager.

Can this condition be ignored or is it any relevant to encryption modes? Or maybe relevant to Virtual Machines occupying space in one of the disks?

    Hello Claus Debanker,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

It sounds like you're experiencing a series of issues that could be interconnected. Let's break down each symptom and explore potential causes and solutions:

    1. SeaTools might sometimes report incorrect free space due to software bugs or compatibility issues.
    2. :Diskpart's list disk command shows the total unallocated space on each disk, not the free space within partitions.
    3. If virtual memory settings revert after reboot, it could be due to insufficient permissions, corrupted system files, or conflicts with other system settings.
    4. If you have virtual machines (VMs) running on these disks, they could be consuming disk space dynamically. VMs often use virtual hard disks (VHDs) that can grow and shrink, which might not be accurately reflected in some tools.
    5. If your disks are encrypted (e.g., with BitLocker), it could affect how free space is reported and managed. Encryption can sometimes cause discrepancies in reported free space due to the way encrypted volumes are handled.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Daisy Zhou
