Unable to save .docm with content control

2024-11-20T13:14:17.42+00:00

Hello,

I'm having trouble saving .docm documents that contain content controls (Quick Parts) linked to a .dotm template. When I try to save, the program seems to process the request for a while, then returns to a new save dialog without having saved the file and without displaying any error message. Here's some additional context and what I've tried:

This issue occurs regardless of the save location (local or network).

The template is referenced in "Templates and Add-ins" under "Document Template".

It's also worth noting that the template appears twice in the "References" folder of the Project (in the VBA pane) and I can't remove one of these lines.

I've also tried removing all content controls from the document but that doesn't resolve the issue.

Other users who try to save the file encounter the same problem.

When I try to save and then close without saving, the temporary file "~$C XX.docm" remains in the source folder.

Saving the file as a .docx works fine.

I've checked all file save lock options. I'm using Microsoft Office Standard 2016 (volume license).

Thank you in advance for your help,

Best regards

I encountered same problem, and just figured it out. In VBA editor Project Explorer, I had 2 templates in the “References” folder, one of them is not available in the computer I tried to save the file. After I deleted the unavailable template, I can save the .docm file.
