I am writing to request a feature enhancement for the Customization settings under Tenant Administration in Intune. Currently, when creating a new policy, the following settings are not available for inclusion and instead default to the global policy:

  • Hide remove button on corporate Windows devices
  • Hide reset button on corporate Windows devices
  • Hide remove button on corporate iOS/iPadOS devices
  • Hide reset button on corporate iOS/iPadOS devices

We would greatly benefit from the ability to include and customize these settings in new policies.

Reason for Request Our goal is to:

  1. Hide these options for all users by default, ensuring device security and preventing unauthorized resets or removals.
  2. Allow admin IT staff to access these options by assigning them to a specific policy that unhides the buttons, enabling manual resets directly from a device when necessary.

The current limitation means these settings are governed by the default policy, leaving no way to create custom configurations for different user groups.

Why We Rely on the Company Portal Reset Option We prioritize using the Company Portal reset option over the native Reset this PC feature in Windows because the latter has caused significant issues, including:

  • The Intune object remains post-reset, retaining assigned groups. This disrupts the re-provisioning process.
  • Other configuration issues have been observed, which make the device difficult to manage.

By using the Company Portal reset, we ensure that devices are wiped and removed from Intune correctly, avoiding these challenges and streamlining the provisioning process.

Additional Considerations We do not want to grant all IT staff access to the remote wipe option in the Intune portal, as there is a risk of mistakenly targeting the wrong device. Since a wipe cannot be reverted, this could lead to significant disruptions. Limiting access to this functionality to specific policies or roles would help mitigate this risk.

Enabling these customization settings in new policies would provide us with the flexibility to manage these options more securely and effectively.

Thank you for considering this feature request. Please let me know if you need further clarification or additional details.
