MANY Outlook Calendar Reponses To Google Calendar Invites EVEN when i've accepted

HI there - been to 5 local IT professionals! Last one said the reason my customers or acquitances are getting literally over a dozen calendar responses ( like double digits...declines, tentantives, accepted) unbeknownst to me is that there's an issue in server communication between MSFT and Google.
We tested me receiving various google calendar invites both via the APP or via Online browser settings and each I case i accept and on their end they get 10-20+ responses that i've declined, accepted tentatively etc. All looks fine on my end. Last IT guy said I had to escalate this to MSFT first then maybe Google as it says they cannot fix it and it's not a local software issue on my end. Please help...people are getting vary annoyed and I'd rather not move off MSFT because of this.

I would double-check the sync settings between the Microsoft account and Google Calendar to ensure they are configured correctly. In case of any cached data causing issues, I would also clear all browser's cache and cookies, and ensure all related applications (Outlook, Google Calendar) are updated to the latest versions.

    Good luck!

    Hi @Mark Sutter

    Welcome to our forum!

What is your account? Outlook.com or gmail.com or something else?

Did the issue occur on Outlook desktop client?

Did you send to all Gmail accounts, they receive a lot of replies emails, or individual accounts?

Based on my research, i did the following steps and everything works fine.

    • Outlook.com account (signed in on Outlook client) sent a meeting to Gmail, Gmail could accept normally.
    • Gmail account sent a meeting to outlook.com (on Outlook client), after replying on Outlook client, Gmail receives only one reply message to receive the invitation.
    • Gmail A account (signed in on Outlook client) sent a meeting to Gmail B (signed in on web), B account could receive normally.
    • Gmail B account (on web) sent a meeting to Gamil A (on Outlook client),after A replies, Gmail B receives only one reply saying that A accepted the invitation.

Everything seems to be running smoothly, to further confirm if the issue is more related to Outlook desktop client, you may try updating the client or re-adding your account to see if the problem is repeated, if not, it may be more related to users who use Gmail accounts, and it is recommended that they clear their browser cache or update the app to see if the problem persists.

    Hope it helps.

We were able to pinpoint our issue. The google invite with the addition of the zoom link (Chrome zoom extension) was setting off something with "Safelinks" in o365 security when it was calendar processing.

The messages were getting delivered but the calendar processing didn’t block the email delivery but interfered during calendar sync by rewriting or flagging the Zoom/Google URLs in the ICS file, causing Exchange to reject the event (Even though it still delivered to the end user) and signal a message to Google Calendar (likely via Graph or EWS since we see no SMTP traffic on this). So we think o365 could have signaled something back to google that it didn’t like in the ICS file causing google servers to send the responses. If you review the headers of the decline/accept emails the headers show they come from google servers NOT the end user environment.

To test go into O365 Admin - Go into Security Admin Center - Then click on Policies and Rules - then click on Threat Policies - then click on Safe Links. You can temporarily turn this off to test but this was what was causing the auto accept/decline invite bombardment.

Once you determine if thats it you can create some custom policies for safelinks to work better with zoom/google and turn it back on.
