Windows Sandbox becomes irritating.
Let me explain. Windows 11 Pro 24H2 Up-to-date till the latest patch. (on a modern system) Made a Sandbox by turning the Option in optional features to on. Rebooted and it installed some stuff during the Shutdown (till 30%) and during Startup fase (till 100%) So far zo good. Starting the Sandbox and played with it's for a while; no problem.
Suddenly at a startup; "Error: Windows Sandbox failed to initialize. Can't find element. (0x80070490) Close...." What element? And what's wrong with it? Searched the Windows logbooks for a clue. None. On the internet. None. Except for 2 things; 1) Deinstall Sandbox and install it again. 2) Restore a backup before you turned on that feature. OK. Let's try 1 first then.
Turn off that feature and reboot. Went OK during the Shutdown fase. Startup fase... Oeps "Something went wrong, we are turning back to the previous situation... When everything did "work" ..." That was when Sandbox did not work!!! You can try this until eternity. It will not solve anything! Stopping and starting services in a particle order doesn't fix things either. Clueless.
Left over; A fresh restore after a new installment solved the things. Installed Sandbox again and it worked for quite some time until... You guessed it; the same problem. Uninstalling it.. Oeps "Something went..." etc. Mind you; At key moments I've checked the integrity of my system with DISM & ScanHealth & RestoreHealth and SFC /scannow. Nothing wrong with the system.
I think that these programs will not check optional features if installed. Only the basic Windows System. Microsoft has somethings to do before calling it a optional feature. It's not a reliable one to say the least. Solving it is even harder (if there is one) They went for a minimalistic version of Hyper-V.
Anyone thoughts on the subject? (Apart from restoring a complete system again....)
Asked this question in the MS support Community but because "Since sandbox is not currently supported in the Microsoft Support Community" I was asked to ask it here.
