I am not able to connect to my VM. When looking at my settings, I notice there is no DNS server identified. Could this be the problem?

    Hi Will Tooman,
Thank you to reaching out to Microsoft Q&A forum.
We understand you're having trouble connecting to your Azure Virtual Machine via port 80. This typically involves ensuring that several key configurations are set up correctly. Here’s how to troubleshoot this issue step by step.

1.Azure VMs often use Network Security Groups to control inbound and outbound traffic. You need to make sure that there's an NSG rule allowing inbound traffic on port 80 (HTTP).

Navigate to the NSG associated with your VM’s network interface or subnet:
    Go to the Azure portal.

Search for Network Security Groups and find the one associated with your VM.

In the Inbound security rules section, ensure there's a rule that allows traffic on port 80.

Source: Any (or specific IP ranges, depending on your scenario).

Destination: Your VM’s IP (or Any, if targeting all VMs).

    Port: 80.

    Protocol: TCP.

    Action: Allow.

If the rule doesn't exist, you can create one by clicking Add inbound rule, then configure it to allow port 80.

2.If your VM is running an OS firewall, it might block port 80.   Make sure to check and configure the firewall on the VM.

    1.Log in to the VM.

    2.Open the Windows Firewall.

3.Check for an inbound rule that allows HTTP traffic (port 80). If not, add it.

    3. After completing the Unit 3 exercise, proceed to the Unit 9 exercise and follow the steps outlined in the document. Be sure to restart the Cloud Shell before beginning to ensure it functions effectively.

4.Test from a Different Network or Machine

If you're on a corporate firewall or VPN, try connecting from another network or device to rule out network restrictions.

We also tested it on our end and obtained positive results, as shown in the screenshots:
