While connecting to this virtual machine with rdp it is giving me this error screenshot that is attached. The virtual machine's state is healthy. And I am able to login to the Azure serial console, but I don't know the commands to troubleshoot this. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/azure/virtual-machines/windows/cannot-connect-rdp-azure-vm - I referred this document but got no clue. Can anyone please help me to resolve this issue, other than building up the VM from scratch.

Hi Om Bhosle,

Try using the alternative by following the steps mentioned below:

Navigate to a VM in the Azure portal and go to Serial Console from the left menu, under Help and type:
cmd and execute ch -si 1

press <esc><tab>

Now, enter credentials like VM username, VM password and Domain.

Finally, execute the below command:

reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-TCP" /v UserAuthentication /t REG_DWORD /d "0" /f

Thank you for your patience,

I was busy troubleshooting this issue since past couple of weeks now and yesterday I got it resolved.

So basically the steps that you were providing were accurate, but that will only work if you are able to connect to the currupt VM.

And the next method that you mentioned, by using serial console, I haven't tried that yet.

But the method that I performed and was successful was to login to the corrupt vm's terminal with help of some other vm in the same Vnet. And then running the below mentioned command in the cmd.

$cred = New-Object System.Management.Automation.PSCredential ("<<DomainName\DomainAdminhere>>", $securePass) Remove-Computer -Credential $cred -Force -Restart

This helps in disjoining the domain and from that we can resolve the nla issue.
